Starting a Medical Marijuana Business
First Black Woman to Own a Marijuana Dispensary in Colorado
Have you ever given a thought of starting your own medical marijuana business?
Like many other entrepreneurs, Wanda James tried it all. She was a military officer, restaurant entrepreneur, and member of President Obama’s national finance committee, but the most rewarding success was being the first black woman to own a marijuana dispensary in Colorado. In 2009 Wanda and her team opened up their very own marijuana store in Colorado, making them the first African Americans licensed in Colorado. Her shop is called Simply Pure. They are considered the first Black edible makers in Colorado too. Regardless of her extensive background of professional jobs, Wanda believes that the product is not as bad as the law makes it seem.
Her believes are that of black or brown people should not get penalized for consuming marijuana while the white men make all the money through the marijuana business. She firmly believes that she can make a change when people look at the product.
She believes that individuals should be aware of the product, and its benefits. She strongly suggests that the product should not penalize society nor should there be criminal charges due to a marijuana joint. The stigma of marijuana being a “drug” is inevitable with people that are convinced it is a drug. But, starting with one dispensary will encourage others to do business in the cannabis industry.
Starting your own business that will stand out is key. Just like Wanda your medical marijuana business needs to stand out from the rest. She has had a successful business since, and continues to grow every day.
